Re-writing The Science

After watching the 60 minutes video Re-writing the Science including interviews with James Hanson I was left furious with what the government is doing. To censor out material that has evidentiary support by not just one scientist is like saying to a medically ill patient that you have the treatment to cure them but you are not going to give it to them because you find them annoying. Scientists are diagnosing the earth and the government is refusing to cure it. Is the government keeping this information away from the public in fear of a national panic or better yet a global panic? Are they afraid that we as citizens will become unruly and rebel against them? If they do not recognize the problem any time soon (meaning roughly in the next ten years or so) we will come to a runaway warming and then there will be nothing left for us to do but sit and wait for the climate to warm up to the point that humans can no longer withstand it and die off. The government will be kicking themselves at this point wishing that there was such a thing as time travel or space stations circulating in the earth’s orbit for us to live in. Censoring a scientist’s findings is a disgrace. What scientific backgrounds do lawyers and other politicians have that makes them the overall correct information and saying that everyone is wrong. Scientists have devoted their lives to this, finding a way to put a stop to global climate change and if all their studies and experiments are recorded correctly, ethically, and thoroughly they do not need a babysitter to tell them what they cannot release to the public. The government is supposed to have the citizen’s best interest and if they hide this kind of material from us what are we supposed to do but to think that they are no longer fit to care for us. Information like this being withheld from us is only going to make things worse in the future.

Global Dimming Videos

We always hear about greenhouse gasses and how they are warming the planet that we forget to acknowledge the air pollutants that in return that cause a cooling effect. It would seem as though these two factors should cancel out but according to scientist who have been studying these two effects say that they are leading off in opposite directions allowing one to overpower the other in changing the way are climate is today. When particle pollutants are in the air they allow many tiny water droplets to form which produce a mirror like effect and reflect the sunlight coming in right back out into space. Meanwhile fewer but bigger water droplets do not. Global dimming is the overall term for this phenomenon. It is true that we have cut air pollution emissions but it does not help our overall problem we need to reduce both greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution so that they can cancel out one another to reduce climate change. With government and skeptics refusing to believe in cutting back greenhouse emissions we will continue down the middle of these two opposite exponential curves resulting in disaster and a point of no return. As James Hanson mentioned in the last video each year greenhouse gas emissions are increasing by two percent each year and by 2015 that will be roughly around a thirty-five percent increase from the time they produced that study. If we start cutting greenhouse gas emissions now we may save our planet but if do not we will begin to see the effects of a runaway climate change in our life time that will result ciaos among our children and grandchildren.

As the World Burns -- Ryan Lizza

After reading As the World Burns by Ryan Lizza, I was left frustrated on how people in politics can act. Climate change is a big issue and many seem to know that it is and are unwilling to do anything about it and others are shot down every time they try to make a difference to help better our environment. We know that Obama had two major issues he wanted to resolve besides the current recession and they were Health Care and Climate Change. How could he just take a backseat to everything that was occurring? Why did he not join in the fight to come up with a plan to resolve the problem after he said he wanted to? Noticing that many Senate members decided to not take part because of their reelection statuses is to me somewhat not understandable. Many scientist and community members know that the world is not at all like it once was when it comes to the weather. Everyone notices that it has become a lot warmer and a lot colder in different parts of the world compared to what it was 20 even 30 years ago. It is awful to see how an idea/bill that is completely pure by protecting the world and the living beings that roam its surface to be manipulated and twisted by others just so they could have what they want/support that is needed is heartbreaking. There were people getting along on a project that is rare to see and collaborations were occurring and succeeding to let it all just slip away and vanish is devastating. By the time the Obama administration is through it may be too late to save what once was on this planet. In other words we may have just lost our only hope in actually changing the amount of emissions and energy conservation to help sustain our way of living. I guess we will have to wait until someone new is elected president to see if something will firmly be placed into action in terms of climate change and how we will slow it down and reduce it.
